  • Come From Away is a Tony and Olivier Award-winning musical by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, based on the true story of the 7,000 airline passengers stranded in Gander, Newfoundland, after the 9/11 attacks, and the small town that welcomed them with open hearts and homes. The show celebrates human connection, kindness, and community through a folk-inspired score, telling the story of how locals and travelers formed unexpected bonds during a time of global crisis.

    The Director serves as the artistic leader of the summer musical theatre production, guiding the creative vision while collaborating closely with the Producer to ensure smooth logistical execution. This role blends artistic direction, team leadership, and practical oversight to deliver a high‑quality, community‑centered production that aligns with the mission and standards of Frost Fire Summer Theatre and the Pembina Gorge Foundation.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Artistic Leadership

    • Develop and articulate the overall artistic vision, concept, and tone of the production.
    • Lead the creative process from pre‑production through final performances, ensuring artistic cohesion across all departments.
    • Direct all rehearsals, providing clear guidance to actors, musicians, and artistic staff.
    • Collaborate with the Music Director, Choreographer, and Technical Director to integrate staging, musical elements, choreography, and design.
    • Provide constructive feedback to cast and artistic team members to support growth and excellence.
    • Ensure the production reflects high artistic standards while remaining adaptable to the performance venue and available resources.
    • Logistical & Operational Collaboration
    • Work in partnership with the Producer to develop and maintain the production schedule, including rehearsals, design deadlines, and technical milestones.
    • Participate in casting and hiring processes for performers, musicians, and artistic staff.
    • Coordinate with the Producer on budget considerations, resource allocation, and procurement of materials.
    • Communicate regularly with production and administrative teams to ensure alignment on timelines, needs, and challenges.
    • Support the Producer in ensuring compliance with organizational policies, safety protocols, and licensing requirements.
    • Assist in planning and executing community engagement activities, promotional

    Qualifications

    MUSICAL DIRECTOR

    ($3,000-$5,000)

    Position Overview

    The Music Director serves as the musical leader of the summer musical theatre production, shaping the vocal and instrumental quality of the show while collaborating closely with the Director and Producer to ensure smooth artistic and logistical execution. This role blends musical vision, ensemble leadership, and practical coordination to deliver a high‑quality, community‑centered production that reflects the mission and standards of Frost Fire Summer Theatre and the Pembina Gorge Foundation.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Musical Leadership

    • Develop and articulate the musical interpretation, style, and pacing of the production.
    • Lead all music rehearsals, providing clear instruction to vocalists, ensemble members, and coordination with the orchestra conductor and musicians.
    • Teach and refine vocal parts, harmonies, diction, and musical expression for the cast.
    • Collaborate with the Director and Choreographer to ensure musical elements integrate seamlessly with staging and choreography.
    • Provide constructive feedback to performers and orchestra conductor/musicians to support artistic growth and excellence.
    • Maintain high musical standards while adapting to the performance venue, available resources, and cast skill levels.

    • Communicate regularly with production and administrative teams to ensure alignment on timelines, needs, and challenges.
    • Support the Producer in ensuring compliance with organizational policies, safety protocols, and licensing requirements.
    • Assist in planning and executing community engagement activities, promotional events, or educational opportunities as needed.
    • Performance Responsibilities

Working closely with the Director and Music Director, this role blends artistic vision, instructional leadership, and practical coordination to create choreography that enhances the narrative, supports performers of varied experience levels, and aligns with the mission and standards of Frost Fire Summer Theatre and the Pembina Gorge Foundation.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Choreographic Leadership

    • Develop and articulate the choreographic style, movement vocabulary, and physical storytelling approach for the production.
    • Create original choreography that supports the show’s artistic vision, character development, and musical structure.
    • Teach and rehearse choreography with the cast, providing clear instruction tailored to a range of skill levels.
    • Refine dance numbers throughout the rehearsal process to ensure clarity, cohesion, and performance readiness.

Working closely with the Director, Producer, and artistic team, this role blends logistical oversight, interpersonal leadership, and meticulous attention to detail to maintain the production’s artistic integrity and uphold the mission and standards of Frost Fire Summer Theatre and the Pembina Gorge Foundation.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Rehearsal Coordination & Leadership

    • Manage the daily rehearsal schedule in collaboration with the Director and Producer.
    • Record blocking, choreography notes, and staging details with accuracy and clarity.
    • Facilitate efficient rehearsal flow by anticipating needs, preparing materials, and coordinating transitions.
    • Maintain a positive, professional rehearsal environment that supports focus, safety, and artistic growth.
    • Track attendance, communicate schedule updates, and ensure all cast and crew receive timely information.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for rehearsal‑related questions, clarifications, and adjustments.
    • Communication & Documentation

    Key Responsibilities:

    Musical Leadership & Interpretation

    • Develop and articulate the musical interpretation, pacing, and stylistic approach for the orchestra in alignment with the Music Director’s vision.
    • Lead all orchestra rehearsals, providing clear direction on dynamics, articulation, tempo, and ensemble balance.
    • Ensure the orchestra supports vocalists and choreography with sensitivity to timing, phrasing, and dramatic intent.
    • Maintain high musical standards while adapting to the performance venue, cast needs, and available instrumentation.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Technical Planning & Leadership

    • Develop and articulate the technical approach for the production in alignment with the Director’s artistic vision.
    • Oversee the construction, installation, and maintenance of all scenic, lighting, sound, and prop elements.
    • Evaluate design concepts for feasibility, safety, and budget alignment.
    • Ensure all technical elements are achievable within the production’s resources, timeline, and venue conditions.
    • Installation & Maintenance

    Position Overview

    The Tour Manager oversees all logistical, operational, and communication elements of the Frost Fire Invasion touring program, ensuring each community performance is delivered with professionalism, efficiency, and artistic integrity. Working closely with the Producer, Director, and community representatives, this role blends coordination, problem‑solving, and people‑centered leadership to create a seamless touring experience that reflects the mission and standards of Frost Fire Summer Theatre and the Pembina Gorge Foundation. The Tour Manager ensures that every venue—large or small—receives a high‑quality, engaging, and safe artistic experience.

    Key Responsibilities: Tour Logistics & Scheduling

    • Assist to coordinate the full tour schedule, bookings, travel timelines, load‑in/load‑out windows, and performance durations.
    • Serve as the check in point with community partners to confirm technical needs, arrival procedures, and performance expectations.
    • Plan and communicate daily itineraries, ensuring the team has clear, accurate information for each tour stop.
    • Anticipate logistical challenges and adjust plans proactively to maintain smooth operations.
    • Track attendance, travel times, and performance data for reporting and evaluation.
    • On‑Site Leadership & Operations
    • Lead the touring team during travel days, ensuring punctuality, safety, and preparedness.
    • Oversee load‑in, setup, and exits at each venue, coordinating with team members to maintain efficiency and care for equipment.
    • Ensure each venue meets safety and performance requirements, addressing concerns promptly and professionally.

    Company Support, Safety & Representation

    • Uphold safety protocols during travel, load‑ins, performances, and interactions with community members.
    • Foster a respectful, inclusive, and professional environment for the touring company.
    • Support cast and crew morale by modeling calm, clear leadership and encouraging collaborative problem‑solving.
    • Represent Frost Fire Summer Theatre and the Pembina Gorge Foundation with professionalism, warmth, and mission‑aligned values in all public interactions.
    • Assist with educational engagement components as needed, such as Q&A sessions, brief introductions and facilitation of the on-site programming at each community venue.
    • Collect and submit to the Producer all records of expenditures designating the names on each receipt which person needs to be credited for reimbursement.
